Advance Appliances has successfully completed a major strategic expansion, with support from the Walsall High-Growth Programme.
Delivered by Oxford Innovation Advice on behalf of Walsall Council, the programme has supported the company on its growth journey. Today, it stands at the forefront of innovation in the UK heating sector, producing fully recyclable hot water store tanks that combine sustainability with cutting edge technology.
Founded in 2005 and led by a husband-and-wife team, Advance Appliances offers thermal stores and electric boilers compatible with electricity, multi-fuel, solar, and heat pump technologies. The recent appointment of Richard Prince as Business Development Director further demonstrates the company’s commitment to leadership development and succession planning.
Responding to government targets to grow the UK heat pump cylinder market from 40,000 to 600,000 units per year by 2028, Advance Appliances recognised the need to bring manufacturing in-house. Previously reliant on third party suppliers, the company faced limits on innovation, cost control, and production flexibility.
With guidance from Jag Soor, Business Growth Adviser from the Walsall High-Growth Programme, Advance Appliances has established a state-of- the-art Walsall facility, enabling the design and production of fully recyclable hot water store tanks. This innovation not only reduces environmental impact but also improves energy efficiency, enhances design flexibility, and ensures compatibility with renewable technologies such as solar and heat pumps.
The facility also features advanced machinery and sustainable processes, reinforcing the company’s leadership in operational modernisation and environmental responsibility. The expansion also created two new roles and upskilled an existing employee to a supervisory position.
Richard commented: “The support from Jag Soor has been transformational. It enabled us to innovate, scale efficiently, and bring to market a fully recyclable hot water store tank, something unique in the UK heating sector. This is not just growth – it’s sustainable growth with lasting impact.”
Turnover is projected to increase by 50%, a reflection of the operational expansion and growing demand for low-carbon heating solutions. The investment was funded through internal reserves and operational cash flow, with additional support from the Walsall Council SME Grant Scheme, which also covered product certification and compliance costs.
Throughout the expansion, the Walsall High-Growth Programme provided critical strategic guidance, helping Advance Appliances align operational improvements with business objectives, mitigate risk, and ensure a structured growth trajectory.
Building on this success, the company continues to work with the programme to develop a targeted sales and marketing strategy that leverages its new facility and strengthen their position as a leader in sustainable hot water solutions.
Jag said: “Working with Advance Appliances has been a real pleasure. Their commitment to innovation and sustainability made our collaboration both rewarding and inspiring. We’re excited to continue supporting them as they expand their operations and maximise the potential of their new facility.”
With continued support and a clear strategic direction, Advance Appliances is well-positioned to scale its impact and lead the charge in the transition to greener, smarter heating technologies.
